Topic: OSHA Update 2026
 
Speakers: Marc Vargas, MPH, CIH
Marc Vargas started his environmental safety and health career in South Florida as a Pollution Control Inspector and Hydrogeologist, then as a Safety Director in a Resource Recovery facility. He joined Federal OSHA in 1997. He has worked as a Compliance Officer in South Florida and in New York City for 25 years, performing inspections and investigations in construction, pharmaceutical, healthcare, manufacturing, process safety management, and ergonomics. Marc became an OSHA New York Region Industrial Hygienist in 2022, and in 2023 joined OSHA’s National Office in the Directorate of Enforcement Programs Office of Health Enforcement, specializing in Ergonomics. He also supported NJAIHA in 2019 and 2025 as part of the Northeast Industrial Hygiene Conference planning committee. He served as President, NJAIHA from 2022 – 2023.

Topic: An Update on Improving Exposure Judgements (IEJ)
This presentation will provide an overview of the Improving Exposure Judgements (IEJ) efforts by AIHA and ACGIH. The presentation includes an update on current IEJ developments, some of the tools available to IH practitioners, an update on the EDA Registry, and a few examples of these tools in action using real data to engage the audience in decision making and the IEJ process.
 
Speaker: Dr. Spencer Pizzani, CIH
Spencer Pizzani, CIH is the Global Industrial Hygiene Manager for PepsiCo. His experience includes 11 years in diverse industrial hygiene consulting and 7 years leading corporate industrial hygiene. He is active on the AIHA Real-Time Detection Systems Committee, the AIHA/NIOSH Big Data and Sensor Technology Working Group, and the joint AIHA/ACGIH Improving Exposure Judgements (IEJ) advisory group. Spencer’s work includes The Athena Heuristic, an open-source parametric algorithm for evaluating real-time exposure monitoring data against OELs. His doctoral project, Nitrogen Push Gas as Carbon Dioxide Exposure Control in Blended Beverage Manufacturing, was defended in 2025 and is pending publication on ProQuest. He has presented and published articles on Thermal Stress, Data Handling, Biohacking, and Motivational Structures in industrial hygiene. He also leads the annual Direct-reading Instruments Solutions Workshop. His presentation on 5 Common Difficulties in Real Time Detection Systems Implementation won the Rochelle Crew and Dr. Oliver Johnson awards in 2023.
