June 2019 – President’s Message

This past year with NJAIHA has flown by in the blink of an eye. I joined the NJAIHA a few years ago simply as a way to get continuing education points, but along the way have made many friends and professional connections while continuing to expand my industrial hygiene knowledge. I’m glad that I volunteered for a position on the board, especially since you allowed me to be president for a year! As a new member of the NJAIHA and the Executive Board, I’d like to offer everyone thanks for making this a great experience for me both professionally and personally.

Sincere thanks and gratitude to the NJAIHA executive board members for all of their hard work and dedication to our organization. This is a dedicated group of professionals! Planning meetings and our annual PDC’s, recruiting and welcoming new members, publishing newsletters and keeping you informed of new issues, meetings and remembering our past traditions and friends is just part of what they do. We had a great year filled with interesting speakers, awards and a successful Professional Development Conference (PDC) to name but a few. It has been a pleasure serving at NJAIHA President and having the opportunity to work with professionals who are committed to doing the best they can to make the industrial hygiene industry a vital and important organization. I want to thank Mark Ostapczuk who is leaving us as Director of Publications after doing a fine job for so many years (and also a Past President). I also want to wish your next President, Scott Van Etten, the best of luck and I look forward to continue working with Scott and the Board in the future.

Thanks to the many of you who made it a priority to join NJAIHA and participate in the activities of our Section. Without your support and active participation, our section would be simply another non-profit without the sense of community and common purpose.

In other breaking news, three cheers for our outstanding NJAIHA members who received awards at the National AIHA Conference & Exposition in Minneapolis. Congratulations to Peter Harnett for not only becoming a AIHA Fellow, but for also receiving a “Rising Star” award. Congratulations to Scott Van Etten who is a member of the Sampling and Laboratory Analysis (SLAC) Committee that received the Soaring Star Award!

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve NJAIHA. I hope to see you all at the Imperia on June 13th for our final dinner meeting of the year.

Sincerely,

Doug Glorie, PE, CIH

President NJAIHA
